Plan a Child's Birthday Party in 5 days or less

Are you a #LastMinuteLisa or a #ShortNoticeSusan?  Well I am!!

My youngest was born on December 30th. I swore to myself with a birthday in the middle of the holidays that I would make sure it was always it's own event.  Not even 2 years in and I stink at this!

I was at Kroger (local grocery store) at 10:30pm on 12.29 buying balloons and cake mix. 🤷‍♀️ Whst can I say? At least it was the night before... I am picturing a day when I live to my child about the date. 😐

Needless to say by 12.29 I also had NOT even begun to plan a party.  Finally on Tuesday 1/1, I looked at the weather and a calendar...there was going to be GORGEOUS (maybe chilly) weather this coming Saturday!!!  (Yes 1/5...e.g. in 5 days).

Here is what I did to pull off a great 2 year old Cow themed party:

🐮 Why cow you may ask...well the theme was a no brainer for us since my son is walking around saying 'cow' every 5 minutes followed by a long 'Mooo'!

🐮 Since it was looking like weather would be decent, I wanted to do an outside venue. And because I enjoy a beer or two, I wanted somewhere with alcohol.  Hence, I decided on a Bar.

Yes, We had our son's Second Birthday AT.A.BAR. (this reminds me of sweet home Alabama quote 'you have a baby, in a baarrr')) lol.   Frankly it was the BEST THING EVER!

The Bar has a kid play area, serves apps (and other food), serves alcohol, and was super laid back!

🐮 Since it was just Christmas and at 2 they don't really care/know better, we preferred to ask for items for a no kill animal shelter (Friends for Life).  I love this bc not only do we not get more toys, but we do good!  It also means no last minute rush to get a present for our party...we are not watching to see who brought kibbles n bits before handing out cupcakes!

🐮 Went to Etsy to get invites made (rush for that digital file please).

🐮 Tried to get file printed on Wed, but that was a MAJOR fail!  So had daycare email the invite.

🐮 Wed evening I started texting the invite to my mom friends.

🐮 I like my kiddos in bday shirts, so I begged my friend who has embroidery biz to make a shirt...its the cutest thing EVER!  (Monogram Moi)

🐮 Now that I had people *maybe* coming, I needed decor...a quick trip to the local party store worked out. A few cow table covers, cow plates, a few cow toys for decor, and being in texas you can't forget the pinata! (Yes we had a cow pinata, at.a.bar!!!)

🐮 Next up was a quick 4pm Friday trip to our Kroger (yes again), with a picture of a cow cupcake cake (say that 5 times fast).  They said they could have it ready the next day by 2pm - perfect, the party is 3:30pm!

Yall, this cake came out AWESOME and it was ONLY $34.95!!!! (36 cupcakes)

Big brother had to taste to make sure is ok...lol (And we gave one away early because someone had to go, hence the missing rear hoof)

🐮 Because I'm "extra" I wanted our family to have shirts that say who we are.  It has helped others to talk to my parents or if you have people attending you don't really know.  Full caveat is I own a Cricut and Heat press, so I made the family shirts the night before. Were they necessary, no.  Were they worth the effort, I thought so.

🐮 I am not a huge fan of party favors...they clutter my house, are typically inexpensive (break easily), and choking hazard for younger siblings. Plus there aren't a ton of cow favors that don't take 2 weeks to come in!

Soooo we committed to donating $3 per child who attended the party to Friends for Life (animal shelter). The kids did not seem to care and the parents were grateful for one less trinket.

🐮 Last step...show up and enjoy the party!!!  Clearly the birthday boy had fun, and that is all that really matters!
